So, has anyone bought this game yet? I ordered it, but haven't received it yet. The description says there are DVD-style extras: commentary, interviews, etc. Maybe some with Nick?

BTW, I checked the various gaming sites (Gamespot, etc.), and it seems the Xbox version of this game has been cancelled. It's going to be Playstation 2 only.

I couldn't find any reviews on the net yet. Some folks at Idealists Haven have succeeded in purchasing the somewhat elusive game. So far they seem to enjoy the playing experience.
The game's release in Europe is scheduled for May. Yes, the only platform seems to be PS2, which I unfortunately don't own. *sigh*
No screenshots or mentions about a Krycek appearance either yet. double *sigh*

I guess there's no hope that this will ever be a PC release? You know, for those of us who haven't owned a game system since the original Atari and aren't about to get one now...

By Leigh (pool-141-149-123-78.pghk.east.verizon.net - on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 06:17 am:

You never know, but if it ever is ported over to PC, it will probably be years. And will have to be a monster hit, to make it worth their while.

I only a have a PS1, but am buying it anyway. I'm hoping that some of the content will be accessible on PC. (The interviews and such.) There are Playstation emulators for PC, too. They don't work very well, but might be enough to get screen shots. I will probably buy a Playstation 2 eventually. The only question is if it will be as soon as the game arrives, or if I'll be able to wait until prices drop later this year. I might be able to borrow a friend's Playstation to play this game.

There's a summarizing RoS trailer on a german x-files webpage (trailer language is english): 1,2 mb size in realmedia format (low quality). It contains 3 episodes - and I've heard krycek's voice in ep 1 and 3. But I might be wrong - the quality is really poor:

I got my copy tonight. There seem to be a lot of extras. (Though it's hard to tell, since I don't have a PS2 yet, LOL!) However, I found a video clip of Nick recording his lines. I converted the video file from PS2 format to both DivX and RealMedia (you have your choice, small file and kind of fuzzy, or humongo download and nice, clear picture.) Also, the official site has a picture of digital Krycek, which I swiped. Get it all here:

That lipstick is entirely the wrong color for him! :)

By Leigh (pool-68-237-176-30.pghk.east.verizon.net - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 11:13 am:

I don't understand the lipstick. Maybe I should hack the other video files, and see if it's explained somewhere.

I wonder if he applied it himself? If so, he did a good job. No smudging, despite his energetic performance...

By Yoze S (h58n1fls32o836.telia.com - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 12:50 pm:

Heeh... Now I won't be able to sleep because of that MYSTERIOUS lipstick!!! He can wear lipstick all he wants but yeah... the color! ;) :O
I've always thought he should wear black nailpolish, though.... :9 *sends 'im a bottle*

By Psi Fi ( on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 12:32 pm:

A friend of mine suggested that the lipstick was so the game people could see how his lips move for the animation. I don't know if that's right or not.

By Leigh (pool-68-237-181-125.pghk.east.verizon.net - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 01:22 pm:

Could be. I took a peek at some of the other video files. The "Byers" one actually shows him putting on the lipstick. Looks like Frohike's wearing it, too. Langly isn't, but it looks like his was filmed at a different time. (Dean cut his hair. Yikes, he doesn't look like Langly any more.)

By Yoze S (h58n1fls32o836.telia.com - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 04:33 pm:

Aaaalright... And a wig for Dean it is...

*sits & stares disappointedly at black nailpolish bottle*

Btw, ages = 6 years ago, I think Dean used to have a website, I visited it. Does ANYONE know if it's still up??

By Leigh (pool-68-237-181-125.pghk.east.verizon.net - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 04:47 pm:

Dean's web is still up:

But it looks like it's not being updated much. A lot of the links are dead. There is a pic of him with short hair, though.

By AnonXF (pool-138-88-139-150.esr.east.verizon.net - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 01:32 pm:

Thank you so much for these, Leigh! So wonderful to see the man is working and we are getting the benefit of seeing him more often.

My understanding is the lipstick is indeed to have the animation appear more lifelike and essentially miming the live action.

By laylya (pd9e7481e.dip0.t-ipconnect.de - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 02:17 pm:

The Krycek-Pixel-Villain doesn't look that bad after all. I was a bit concerned - because game-developers tend to make them "quick-and-dirty". But he looks very elaborate: the eyes are carefully designed (even though they are blue!) and the mouth has this sweat "pouty" look.... :-)

By Leigh (pool-68-237-181-125.pghk.east.verizon.net - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 05:25 pm:

Yes, they did make a real effort to get the likenesses. Not all of them are up yet at the game's official site. But the ones that are look pretty good, considering how low-poly the models are. I was particularly impressed with CSM!

Nick's better-looking than his digital avatar. I think they got the eyes wrong. Nick's are larger, or not as deep-set, or something. They probably wanted to make him look a little weaselly for the game. But they did a pretty good job on the shape of his head, nose, lips, Nick's little elf ears, etc.

By Bardsmaid (lsanca1-ar42-4-61-160-219.lsanca1.dsl-verizon.net - on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 10:11 pm:

Any idea how long ago the actors' portion was recorded, Leigh? My guess is that there's still a lot of technical stuff to do after the actors' voices are put in.

I'm glad that Nick's character was included in this... and yet I imagine, especially after what Nick had to say about playing Krycek on these boards after *Existence aired, that he was probably very much conflicted creatively about this contribution, because it certainly seems like no progress whatsoever has been made between Mulder and Krycek and that, regrettably, Krycek was just there to provide the story with a villain yet again.

... You know, there are times when I ask myself why I keep writing XF stories since the fandom is definitely shrinking. But every time I'm reminded of how the tremendous potential Nick put into Krycek has been squandered, I'm glad I've made the attempt to take all that complexity and nuance and three-dimensionality and run with it in stories that (I hope) honor the work and the hopes Nick invested in bringing K to life.

(I do, btw, have a short Mulder-Krycek story that's nearly ready to see the light; right now it's in the final stages of beta. I'll leave a note here when it's ready, if anyone's interested.)

The game rocks! I played it for over 10 hours today! It's ah... rather engrossing to say the least. It's very X-File-ish, complete with Mulder's wonderfully dry sense of humor.
Just a note, Nick is also in the B-roll of William B. Davis (Cigarette-Smoking Man), sans lipstick, however, lol.

I have to admit the part I enjoyed most about this game was blasting the heck out of Skinner in Mulder's dream!! A taste of revenge for him shooting Krycek! :)

By Leigh (pool-68-237-181-125.pghk.east.verizon.net - on Sunday, March 28, 2004 - 06:32 am:

Nick recorded this quite awhile back - maybe a couple of years ago? Around the time when I first announced the game on the front page of the site. It was originally scheduled for Summer 2003 release, and I believe the actors all finished their parts well before then.

I'm sure Nick didn't expect there would be any progress for the Krycek character. For one thing, they seem to have made an effort to make this game very much like the show, even making it in the form of three "episodes" (that could presumably fit sometime within the confines of the TV series, not after it). For another, video games are notoriously one-dimensional, with very limited story. And what story there is generally involves plot (usually a mystery), not characterization.

I am surprised at the number of TV and movie actors who are doing games like these. It used to be that the original actors never participated in the game. But now, they often do. It must be good money for fairly undemanding work. Either that, or they think it might be the wave of the future, and they want to get in on the ground floor.

Seeing him in full make-up and bright lipstick will certainly give people who usually don't see him another view of "Krycek"! :)

By the way, Nick, you don't need any make - up! :)

Leigh, "Nick's little elf ears" ooh don't get me started (LOL)!

By Kaylie (pcp04321488pcs.nrockv01.md.comcast.net - on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 09:35 pm:

Well, the pics look great, aside from the lipstick. LoL. Which I assume is some sort of running gag or...something among the X-Filey actors... or what you guys all said.

I agree Bardsmaid, I'm sure there was a little conflict there, but from what I've seen of the pics, Nick seems to be rolling as smoothly as he can with everything. In a way, it probably just feels good to hang around the 'old gang' again. :) Don't know, have to see the video eventually. Having major internet problems at the moment.

By Psi Fi ( on Thursday, April 22, 2004 - 04:18 pm:

I had an idea for the game. Unfortunately, I'm a lousy gamer and technologically inept. I think it would be cool if someone who is good at these games recorded playing the game on dvd or vhs, cut out the times they died or went the wrong way, etc, and generally compiled the game into three watchable episodes. It would be so kewl to get to just sit back and watch the action. Playing is fun, but watching the storyline would be good too!

There is a RUMOR over at Haven that the possible XF movie 2 with be a MOTW/MYTHARC blend and set in season 7. I am hoping eally hard for this as it would mean Krycek is alive and sticking his nose into things again. The RUMOR contends that the XF game was a gauge to see how much audiance interest there was in a 2nd movie. I sincerely hope that this pans out.

XFMOVIE 2 YES!! I think all along it was said it will be a MOTW--but thats new to blend it with MYTH

Here's a page of Digital!Krycek from the XF "Resist or Serve" game.

(There are lots of spoilers so if you haven't played the game and don't want to be spoiled, please don't click the link.)

Thanks, Aki! A lot of people have asked for something like that! :)
