Becky's Brush With Greatness

December 1, 1998

Okay, most of you might know the Shoot Sheet: it's an online database where you can look up any company that is filming anything (movies, TV, videos, etc.) and where they are filming. We looks at it daily, because, of course, The X-Files moved to Los Angeles, and are frequently filming around my area. We have gone to a few sites, but found nothing (BTW: 20th Century Fox, when filming The X-Files, will not put down its name for fear of billions of fans hanging out there: instead, they list XF as "untitled", so we look for all the untitled's under 20th Century Fox, but some turn out to be untitled movies and such.)

Anyway, there was a filming off of Wilshire on Tuesday, and it was for an episode to be shown in the spring called "Two Fathers" (don't ask how my mom found out it was this exact episode): it's very mythology, from what we've read. Anyway, I had school on Tuesday, but had free periods after lunch, so got out at 1 o'clock. My mom said that she would try to go to the site, just to check it out and see if it was XF, and then pick me up at one, and we would then go or not go back to the site. Well, 1 o'clock rolls by, and I'm standing outside of my school, when my mom's best friend Alexis (the nicest woman in the world) pulls up with my mom in the passenger seat. I was pretty confused, and got in the car. I asked what was going on, and my mom told me to get my seatbelt on and tell her when I was ready. I did, and she passed a big open envelope back to me, which I opened and removed two b&w pictures of Mulder and Scully, both of which were signed !!! My mom, so happy that she could barely contain herself, told me that she and Alexis had gone to the site at about 10, and they WERE filming X-Files, and that the two of them made friends with the guards (which means, in my family, kissed a shitload of ass: we Kirsch's are stellar at doing this) and SAW GILLIAN ANDERSON!!!!! They did not meet her, but she was walking between the trailers about 30 feet away, and they saw her! She was wearing a black jacket, and holding a cell phone. My mom and I just worship that woman, and neither of us have seen her, until now!!! My mom said that they did not see anyone else, but that the filming was going on inside a basketball court nearby. Alexis and my mom are a true pair of friends: they work well together in situations like this. They buttered up this guard (who we found out later did not to be buttered up: he was the nicest man, unbelievably kind) and his friends so much that he was on the verge of proposing. Alexis dropped us off at home, wished us luck, and we got into our car and sped off.

It was raining pretty heavily, but we got there in about 15 minutes, armed with a camera, umbrellas, and a few things to sign, just in case. We got there, parked the car, and walked up to the place where my mom had been standing, on the sidewalk, talking to a security guard. I won't mention his name, but he was the sweetest man; I don't know what he and my mom and Alexis talked about, but he was in love with them!!! =) We stood there for a while, talked about what was going on (which was nothing: they were all inside and scheduled to stay all night) and hung out there in the rain for about an hour. I also met an assistant director who was great (no, not tom Braidwood: he wasn't there, and neither was Chris Carter) I was a little disappointed, because David and Gillian had already left, but then started to think about who else could be there, because, after all, it was a mythology episode. I came up with Krycek, CSM, Marita, Spender, Mrs. Mulder, Skinner, and if there were flashbacks, Bill Mulder and Samantha.

I was pondering this in my little rain soaked head, when someone stepped out from between the trailers. He was tall, wearing a black leather jacket, black tight (damn, those things were tight) jeans, and beautiful black boots. He was walking towards us, and had just stepped off the parking lot and onto the sidewalk. Mom and SG ( security guard who shall remain nameless) were talking and didn't notice, but I knew that this had to be someone. As he neared, he noticed us, smiled at me for a moment (though he was still far away and I couldn't tell who it was, though I had my hopes) and lowered his umbrella, so that his face was hidden. I knew it had to be somebody. As he walked past me, I snuck a peek under his umbrella, and saw Nicholas Lea smiling out at me from under it. I think I was about a nanosecond away from passing out, but thankfully didn't, and as he walked away, I hit my mom on the arm and told her to look, while I regained my breath. He walked away, and into a building, where there was a food truck outside of. I was grinning like a madman for about 10 more minutes until we decided to walk down to that doorway, where another SG friend of my mom's was waiting ( is she good or what?!!) We stood there for about 10 more minutes talking, and then he walked out of the building (he being Nick Lea, light of my life, Ratboy of my dreams) to get a cup of coffee from the food truck. We gazed in awe at the man who looked 100x better in person than on TV, and our other SG friend saw us, and went over to him and pointed us out. He smiled, threw away the sugar packet he had been putting into his drink (my mom late told me that she pondered whether or not to make a dive for that sugar packet), and he looked over at us. I said (truthfully, I never say the right things, and here, well, damnit, I said EVERYTHING RIGHT!!!) "Welcome to LA Nick", and he smiled, and said "Well, with all this rain, it feels like home". My mom said "It's nice to see you with two arms", and he laughed and said "I haven't been to makeup yet". We asked him about how the show was going, commented on how much we missed him at the EXPO, and then he came over to us. As he walked up to me, he said "What's your name" , and I was thinking "you actually wanna know my name?!?!?!?!" and I said "Becky". He took my hand, shook it and said "Becky, Nick." Then he did the same to my mom: "Peggy, Nick." Did I mention what a beautiful smile this man has??? He looked us right in the eye whenever he spoke to us, and if he didn't hear what we said, he said "What?"; he was actually interested in what we had to say, and didn't just shrug us off. We talked for about 5 minutes, and then he had to go inside. As he left, he turned to wave, and (damn, I had such balls that night) and blew him a kiss with two fingers, which he saw and smiled at. We said goodbye, and he entered the building, while my mom and I passed out in each other's arms.

I am proud to say that my mom is also in love with Nick now, after meeting him. He was so kind, and so wonderful; a real honor to meet. We laughed for a while, marveling at how incredible lucky we were, and talked again with out SG friends. When it seemed like nothing better could ever happen to us, Chris Owens walked by and to the food cart. Damn, he looked good (I know he plays a weasel [ I actually call him "Weaslet", or, if I'm really pissed at him. "stupid-fucking-little-monkey-weasel-rat-bastard" ] but he's just such a good actor, and cute as a button.....I think I'm in love. Hey! I'm not insane! I'm 16, and fall in love every week!) Anyway, he ordered a drink, and walked off. We didn't talk to him: no biggie, and anyway, he was in a hurry. As if by then things couldn't get any better (you will notice me saying this phrase a lot: things only got better that night), someone inside have me one of the dailies (sheets with who is going to be there, what scene, lots of mumbo jumbo, and then SCRIPT!!!! there were a few pages of last-minute added script!!!!!!!!!!). It was amazing, but I didn't get to check it out until we were in the car that night, cause no one outside of the cast and crew are supposed to have that. We also got a paper sign hanging outside of the door that said "X-Files lunch area" with an arrow......=)

We stood there, in the pounding rain, for a while, and then saw that everyone was packing up. We found out that they would be filming a block away, right on Wilshire, a very busy street in LA. We walked there, and found a black Lincoln (one exactly like the one's used to drive people to and from the airport, if they have enough money that is) with dealer's license plates, parked on Wilshire, and a tent set up with people inside, with boxes, and cameras, and director's chairs with "The X-Files" written on them. One of the directors we knew showed us a great place to watch them film without being in the way: it was about 10 feet from the car, on the curb, right next to everything, including the tent. We stood there, and realized that we still had out camera with us, and why the hell didn't we get a picture with Nick!!! I knew that we would see him soon, at this set, so I figured I could just ask him for one. No one recognizable was there yet, so we waited and laughed ourself to tears.....blissfully happy.

About 30 minutes later, we see Nick walk up, absolutely gorgeous, and take a seat in one of the chairs, right next to Kim Manners (director, great guy). (Something else I didn't mention: all night, Nick smoked like a chimney.........damnit, why the hell did he have to do that!!!!??!?!???!) They talked for a while, and then we noticed Chris Owens come up, greet them, and then walk around the street, checking out the setting. Right behind him, coming around a corner, wearing a classic outfit of his, was William B. Davis. He was stunning, and it was night, the ground was wet, and it was like 500 below zero, and he just looked like CSM, scary and proud and regal all at the same time. He also took a seat next to Nick, and talked with him for a while. Okay, I know that this sound's weird, but he kept looking over at me. I know that I'm only 16, but most people I meet for the first time think I'm over 20 (Tiff, I can hear you laughing from here, so quit it before I come over and kick your ass), and he just kept looking at us! not glaring or staring, but with a little grin. I was hoping that I didn't have a huge piece of food in my teeth, but my mom assured me that I didn't.

Someone was checking Nick's makeup and hair (goddamn, I wish that was me!!), and he was standing up outside of the tent (the rain had stopped by then), and when the makeup lady was done, he was about to walk over to his seat, when I walked up to him, and tapped him on the shoulder. He saw me, smiled (this guy is all smiles), and I said, " Nick, I gotta be honest. I was at the premiere of the X-Files movie, and I saw you there, and I took some pictures of you, but not a single one came out! I was wondering if you would mind taking one with me right now; I've got a camera, and it will only take a second." He grinned and said "I'd love to" (can you guys imagine the look on my face!!!!) and followed me over to where my mom was standing with the camera. He put his right arm around me (i tell you, he smelled of smoke, but for the first time in my life, it was intoxicating and sexy) (and my jacket still smells like him now!!!) and my mom took two pictures. When I looked up, all I could see was his smile, and then I found his eyes, and I said thank you, you are an angel, I really appreciate it, etc. He looked at me and said "It was easy", smiled, and went to sit down again. For the first time in my life, I actually had weak knees. (BTW: the pictures have been sent out, and I expect them in like a week)

Then Nick, William, and Chris went over to the car and rehearsed their scene. Nick was in the driver's seat of the car the whole time, and what was happening was this: CSM would get out of the backseat of the car, talk to Spender who was waiting on the sidewalk, light up =), give something to spender, spender would get into the car, and Krycek would drive away (just up a few feet until they said cut). It was great to watch; it felt like we were standing in the TV screen, watching this happening. Everything was perfect: lighting, acting, and it was just a joy to watch CSM light up!!! And whenever Spender got into the car at the end, Krycek would say one line to him, and then drive away with a terrifying CSM standing, watching them. Every time Nick had to drive the car, he stopped it right in front of us, beeped two times to signal that he was backing up, back up, and they would do it again. They all looked great........=) What else can I say!?

My mom and I are such sickos. before they started to film, nick was smoking, and he flicked his cigarette butt onto the sidewalk, and we laughed at whether or not to pick that up! LOL! we didn't (although I would have loved to, but it got stepped on so much that it was smushed) =) Also, we saw someone hand William a new herbal cigarette each time he did a take, so we figured that there were a lot extra. My mom went over to the props guy, and asked him for one. He looked at her, and then took one in his hand and put it at his side. her hand was at her side, and he slipped it to her! It was like they were exchanging drugs!!! she carried it back to me like it was a baby bird!! It's great to own, and it's some rose/honey kind, which smells really nice....LOL!!! =) When Nick's scenes were done, he got a cup of tea (i actually got to see him dipping the tea bag like in ""Terma""!!!! LMAO!!!! it was great!!!) and a Walkman, and sat down under the tent, watching the monitor with Kim.

That's pretty much it. We came there at 2, and left at 7:30, getting home just in time to see bad blood, which was on FX. We also went back the next day after school, because they were filming in a huge beautiful house 3 blocks away, and we figured we could try it again, this time bringing my brother, who was heartbroken that he couldn't come the day before. We parked about 2 blocks away, and stared to walk there. My mom turned around, spun back quickly, and whispered to me "Look whose behind us!!!!": it was Chris Owens, wearing a green shirt and slacks, just like the day before, just strolling down the street about 10 feet behind us. I have to say it, and will probably be killed for doing so, but Jesus, he's hot in person!!!!! =) We stayed at the house for about 2 hours, mingling with the same people as yesterday, all of them recognizing us and coming up to talk to us. I saw Nick (same kinda outfit) jump out of a van, and he saw us there and waved, and said "Hey guys!" We didn't see much else.

Well, just thought I'd tell you guys all of this....
